ಮೇಘ ಮೇದಿನಿ - ರಾಧಾಕೃಷ್ಣ ಎಸ್. ಭಡ್ತಿ ನಿಮಗೆ ನೆನಪಿರಬಹುದು, ಕಳೆದ ಜೂನ್ 14ರಂದು ಅನ್ಯಾಯವಾಗಿ ಸಂತರೊಬ್ಬರು ಈ ಪುಣ್ಯಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಾಣಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡರು. ಹಾಗೆ ಅವರು ಪ್ರಾಣತ್ಯಾಗ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದು ನಮ್ಮ ಪುಣ್ಯನದಿ ಗಂಗೆಗಾಗಿ. ಅದು ಆತ್ಮಹತ್ಯೆಯಲ್ಲ, ಆತ್ಮಾಹುತಿ. ಈವರೆಗೆ ಪಾಪಿಗಳ ಶವಗಳಿಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಮುಕ್ತಿ ದೊರಕಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಗಂಗೆ ಇದರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮೊದಲಬಾರಿಗೆ ಜೀವಂತ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯೊಬ್ಬನಿಗೆ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಕ್ತಿ ದೊರಕಿಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಳು. ಹೌದು, ಗಂಗಾ ತಟದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಅಕ್ರಮ ಗಣಿಗಾರಿಕೆ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ನದಿಯ ಶುದ್ಧೀಕರಣಕ್ಕೆ ಆಗ್ರಹಿಸಿ  ಸತತ 115 ದಿನ ಉಪವಾಸ ಕುಳಿತ ಉತ್ತರಾಖಂಡ್ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಹರಿದ್ವಾರದ ಸನ್ಯಾಸಿ ಸ್ವಾಮಿ ನಿಗಮಾನಂದರಿಗೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕ ಉತ್ತರ ಸಾವು! ನಾಚಿಕೆಯಾಗಬೇಕಿತ್ತು ನಮಗೆ. ಆದರೆ, ಸರಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಅದು ದೊಡ್ಡ ವಿಚಾರವಾಗಲೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಆ ಸಂತನ ಸಾವು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಸುದ್ದಿಯಾಯಿತು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟರೆ ಮೊದಲಾಗಲೀ ಆನಂತರವಾಗಲೀ ನಮಗೆ ಏನೂ ಅನ್ನಿಸಲೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಗಂಗೆಯ ಒಡಲಲ್ಲಿ ಅರೆ ಬೆಂದ ಹೆಣಗಳೂ ಎಂದಿನಂತೆಯೇ ತೇಲಿ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಲೇ ಇವೆ. ಗಣಿಗಾರಿಕೆ, ಗಂಗೆಯ ಹರಿವಿಗೆ ಅಡ್ಡಲಾಗಿ ಮನಬಂದಂತೆ ಒಡ್ಡುಗಳ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಎಲ್ಲ ರೀತಿಯ ಅತ್ಯಾಚಾರಗಳೂ ಮುಂದುವರಿದೇ ಇವೆ. ಇದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ವಿಪಯರ್ಯಾಸ ಬೇರೇನಿದೆ? ಹಠಕ್ಕೆ ಬೀಳದೇ, ಪ್ರತಿಭಟನೆಗೆ ಇಳಿಯದೇ ಏನೂ ಆಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲವೇ ಅಥವಾ ಕೊನೇಪಕ್ಷ ಒಂದು ಜೀವಕ್ಕೆ...

ಮೇಘ ಮೇದಿನಿ - ರಾಧಾಕೃಷ್ಣ ಎಸ್. ಭಡ್ತಿ ನಮಗೆ ಆ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೆಮ್ಮೆ ಇದೆ. ಜಗತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ವೇಗವಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ನಗರ ಎಂಬ ಖ್ಯಾತಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿಗೆ ಇದೆ.  ಆದರೆ ಅದು ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಯ ಸಂಗತಿಯೇ ಎಂಬುದು ವಿವೇಚನೆಗೆ ಬಿಟ್ಟ ವಿಚಾರ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಈ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆ ಹೀಗೆಯೇ ಸಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಜನ ಹನಿ ನೀರಿಗಾಗಿ ಹಾಹಾಕಾರ ಮಾಡುವ, ಪರದಾಡುವ ದಿನ ದೂರವಿಲ್ಲ. ದಿನದಿನಕ್ಕೂ ಈ ಬೃಹನ್ನಗರಿಯ ಒಡಲು ಸೇರುತ್ತಿರುವ ಭಾರಿ ಜನಸಂಖ್ಯೆ.                                    ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನೂರಾರು ವರ್ಷ ಹಳೆ ಮರಗಳನ್ನು ಆಪೋಶನ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಮುಗಿಲೆತ್ತರಕ್ಕೆ ಎದ್ದುನಿಲ್ಲುವ ಮನಮೋಹಕ ಕಟ್ಟಡಗಳು. ಗಲ್ಲಿಗಲ್ಲಿಗಳಿಗೂ ಡಾಂಬರು. ವಸುಂಧರೆಯ ಹೊಟ್ಟೆ ತಂಪಾಗಿಸಲು ಅವಕಾಶವಾದರೂ ಎಲ್ಲಿದೆ? ಮಳೆ ನೀರು ಕಾಂಕ್ರೀಟ್ ಚರಂಡಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಗಿ, ದೊಡ್ಡ ಮೋರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹರಿದು ಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆಯೇ ವಿನಾ ಭೂಮಿಯ ಒಳಕ್ಕೆ ಇಳಿಯುವುದೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಅದೇ ನಾವು ಅವಳ ಒಡಲು ಬಗೆದು, ಸಾವಿರ ಅಡಿ ಆಳಕ್ಕೆ ಇಳಿದು ಅಲ್ಲಿರುವ ನೀರನ್ನೆಲ್ಲ ಬಳಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ದಿನಕ್ಕೊಂದು ಬಗೆಯ ಜ್ವರ. ಪ್ರತಿದಿನವೂ ವೈದ್ಯಲೋಕವನ್ನು ಅಚ್ಚರಿಗೆ ಕೆಡಗುವ, ಅವರು ಕಂಡುಕೇಳರಿಯದ ಹೊಸಹೊಸ ಕಾಯಿಲೆಗಳು. ಈ ಕ್ಷಣ ನಗುನಗುತ್ತ ಇದ್ದವ ಮರುಕ್ಷಣ ಅನಾರ...

ಭಾವತೀರಯಾನ - ಎ.ಆರ್.ಮಣಿಕಾಂತ್ 1940- 50ರ ದಶಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂಗ್ಲೆಂಡ್-ಅಮೆರಿಕ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಎಲ್ಲ ಯುರೋಪ್ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ವರ್ಣಬೇಧ ನೀತಿ ಒಂದು ಆಚರಣೆಯಂತೆಯೇ ಜಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿತ್ತು. ನಾವೇ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠರು ಎಂಬ ಭಾವನೆ ಬಹುಪಾಲು ಬಿಳಿಯರಿಗಿತ್ತು. ಕರಿಯ ಮೈಬಣ್ಣದ ಜನ ಬಿಳಿಯರ ಸೇವೆ ಮಾಡಲೆಂದೇ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದವರು ಎಂದು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಬಿಳಿಯರು ನಂಬಿದ್ದರು. ಹಾಗಂತಲೇ ವಾದಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಕರಿಯ ಜನಾಂಗದ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಶಾಲೆಗೆ ಹೋದರೆ, ಅವರ ಮೇಲೆ ಹಲ್ಲೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು, ಹೆದರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಹೀಯಾಳಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಹಿಂಸಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ವರ್ಣಬೇಧ ನೀತಿಯನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸುವಂತಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬ ಕಾನೂನು ಕಾಗದದ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಜಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿತ್ತು. ಬಿಳಿಯ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ದಬ್ಬಾಳಿಕೆ ತಡೆಯಲಾಗದೆ, ಕರಿಯ ಜನಾಂಗದ ಅದೆಷ್ಟೋ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಅರ್ಧಕ್ಕೇ ಶಾಲೆ ಬಿಟ್ಟರು. ದೈಹಿಕ ಹಲ್ಲೆಯ ಕಾರಣದಿಂದ ಹಲವರು ಅಂಗವಿಕಲರಾದರು. ತಿರುಗಿ ಬಿದ್ದ ಕೆಲವರ ಮೇಲೆ ಸುಳ್ಳು ಮೊಕದ್ದಮೆ ದಾಖಲಿಸಿ ಜೈಲಿಗೆ ತಳ್ಳಲಾಯಿತು. ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಹೀಗಿದ್ದಾಗಲೇ ಜಾರ್ಜ್ ಹ್ಯಾಲಿ ಎಂಬ ನೀಗ್ರೋ ಯುವಕ, ಬಿಳಿಯರ ಎಲ್ಲ ಕಿರುಕುಳವನ್ನು ಸಹಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಕಾನೂನು ಪದವಿ ಓದಿದ. ಮುಂದೆ ಅಮೆರಿಕದ ಸರ್ಕಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಹುದ್ದೆಗಳನ್ನು ಅಲಂಕರಿಸಿದ. ರಿಚರ್ಡ್ ನಿಕ್ಸನ್‌ನಿಂದ ಆರಂಭಿಸಿ, ಬಿಲ್ ಕ್ಲಿಂಟನ್‌ವರೆಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರ ಅಚ್ಚುಮೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದ. ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಆತ...
