ಶ್ರೀ ರಾವ್ ಬಹದ್ದೂರ್ ಧರ್ಮ ಪ್ರವರ್ತ ಗುಬ್ಬಿ ತೋಟದಪ್ಪನವರು ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ್ದು ತುಮಕೂರಿನ ಗುಬ್ಬಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ರುದ್ರಪ್ಪ ಮತ್ತು ಚೆನ್ನಮ್ಮ ದಂಪತಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಜನಿಸಿದರು. ನಂತರ ತಮ್ಮ ಕುಲ ಕಸುಬು ವ್ಯಾಪಾರವನ್ನು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿಗೆ ಬಂದು ಮಾಮೂಲು ಪೇಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಂದುವರೆಸಿದರು. ನಂತರ ತಮ್ಮ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ದೂರದ ಊರುಗಳಿಂದ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿಗೆ ಓದಲು ಬರುವ ವಿಧ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಆಸರೆ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.ಇದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಬರುವವರಿಗು ಸಹ ಆಸರೆ ನೀಡಿದರು.ದಿನ ಕಳೆಯುತ್ತಾ ಈ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಯಿತು.ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಆಸ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸಲು ಚಿಂತಿಸಿ 1897ರಲ್ಲಿ ಆಗಿನ ಮೈಸೂರು ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ರೈಲ್ವೆ ಇಲಾಖೆಯಿಂದ 2.5 ಎಕರೆ ಜಾಗವನ್ನು 10000 ಕೊಟ್ಟು ಖರೀದಿಸಿದರು.ಇದೆ ಜಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಧರ್ಮ ಛತ್ರ ಹಾಗೂ ಓದಲು ಬರುವ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ 10 ರೂಮ್ ಒಳಗೊಂಡ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿ ನಿಲಯ ತೆರೆದರು.ಈ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯನ್ನು ಫೆಬ್ರವರಿ 11,1903 ರಲ್ಲೀ ಮೈಸೂರು ಮಹಾರಾಜರಾದ ನಾಲ್ವಡಿ ಕೃಷ್ಣರಾಜ ಒಡೆಯರ್ ರವರು ಅಧಿಕೃತವಾಗಿ ಉದ್ಘಾಟಿಸಿದರು. ಸಂತಾನ ವಂಚಿತರಾದ ತೋಟದಪ್ಪನವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಆಸ್ತಿ ಮಾರಿ ಲೋಕ ಕಲ್ಯಾಣ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸಲು 1910 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಟ್ರಸ್ಟ್ ಕಟ್ಟಿದರು ಅದೇ " ರಾವ್ ಬಹದ್ದೂರ್ ಗುಬ್ಬಿ ತೋಟದಪ್ಪ ಚಾರಿಟಿ "ಮತ್ತು ಕೆ ಪಿ ಪುಟ್ಟಣ್ಣ ಚೆಟ್ಟಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಅದರ ಪ್ರಥಮ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ ನೇಮಿಸಿದರು...
